I can’t imagine life without Lucy. It seems that I spent a good portion of my childhood television viewing time shouting, “Oh no, Lucy! Don’t do it!” I only knew her back then as that crazy redhead that was always getting into trouble. It wasn’t until later in life that I came to learn that not only had she not always been a comedian, but also that America’s favorite redhead wasn’t truly a redhead!
This weekend, in honor of her birthday, I’m once again seeing quite a bit of her on television. Because I’ve always been somewhat imprinted with the image of her in character from I Love Lucy, it always takes stumbling across one of her films to remind me that she actually was quite a lovely and talented lady, and not just that silly woman from my childhood, trying to choke down the Vitameatavegamin.
Happy 100th, Lucy!
PS – Some really fabulous previously unpublished photos of her from LIFE can be found here.

I can’t honestly say that I’ve ever seen an episode of “I Love Lucy” all the way through, but this is a tasty little tribute. I had a co-worker named Lucy that I used to call ” Oh Looo-cey” a’la Desi Arnaz. Her contributions to pop culture are undeniable.

I’m sure there are a great number of people out there whom have also never seen an entire episode through, yet, like yourself, are still familiar with the phrase, and just how to say it!

Eeee, I love her. Not only was she infinitely funny, she was a doll too. Funny women basically permeated my childhood, like Carol Burnett and Judy Holliday. By the by, did you see Carol’s tribute to Lucy on TCM? Very nice. Seems they stroke a beautiful friendship and Lucy was always very nice and generous with her time, too.
Very sweet tribute you did here. 🙂

I lerve her too. I didn’t know Carol had done a tribute to her. I watched some of the tribute marathon on TCM, but missed a great deal of it. Drats, I would have liked to have seen that!
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

I’m glad you enjoyed it. Ernest Bachrach had snapped quite a number of fabulous photos of her. I always have a hard time selecting photos for the tribute posts, as I generally have more images that I love than would be suitable for a single post!
