In the fall of 2010, we decided to line the back fence with trees to create a privacy screen. Our favorite would be the Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum). I love that it’s quite different from other trees in the area, in just about every way possible. In spring, it starts out with a magnificent blend of colors – purple, pink, bronze, orange, yellow, and chartreuse. Eventually, the foliage does green out as it matures, but the shade of green is something quite different, being of a muted grayish green. When they reach their full size, the heart-shaped leaves seem to hang vertically from their horizontal stems. Come fall, the colors change to bright gold and orange, and although I haven’t noticed it, possibly due to our cold temperatures, I’ve read that the fall foliage smells like caramel. Because the colors are so different from everything else growing in the vicinity, no matter what time of year it is, the color pops against any background, be it the fence, the sky, or the nearby foliage of other trees. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
Our favorite tree

Katsura tree…BEAUTIFUL! I so need you to work in our backyard. Yes, I mean yard..not garden. I need you to start one, for us…hahaha! I really love your garden.

I am so glad you like it too. 🙂 Ours is pretty much a backyard too, but a garden in progress. As the plantings progress, the lawn shrinks, which is the goal. 😀 I am sure that you will make something lovely happen there, and then when I come visit, I will relax and enjoy it. How rude of you to want to put me to work. heehee xoxo<3

I forgot to tell you, that we actually have a neglected backyard; with pesty weeds. If we can’t make a future garden out of what we have, the other option would be rocks and lots of artificial decorations…hahaha!
When you come visit, Bas and I would let you relax for one day…be queen for a day. You can start on the garden, the day after. LMAO!
🙂 ❤

It’s spring! Get to work! heehee I’ve had the rock yard before. It was horrible maintenance. Even with a weed barrier laid down beneath the rocks, weeds somehow managed to grow in the rock bed. Also, every bit of neighboring fallen foliage and trash blowing by will get caught in there. It’s back breaking work keeping those rock beds clean! We have a bit of one, even now, alongside a paver walkway. It collects debris like crazy. Grrr… I can somehow see your backyard full of artificial decorations though! hahaha
What? That’s just rude! In that case, I will visit for just one day. HA! 😛 😉 xoxo

We are working..more house painting to go… 😦 Maybe you are right about those rocks. We will see what we can do, next year. You can imagine my backyard with artificial decor? That sounds so rude. 😛
You can plan to visit for one day. That will not work with us. We will tie you up and keep you in the garden shed…heh!heh! 🙂 <3xxoo

Perhaps you should just pick of some of those metal sproingy boingy garden sculptures and fill your backyard with them. Those are always fun too. heehee 😉
I always knew you were some form of crazy! That is completely unacceptable, and of poor etiquette. Perhaps we should send you to charm school, so that you may properly learn how to treat guests. xoxo<3

It is my belief that there is a shortage of both sproingy and boingy items in this world. It is such a shame, as they amuse me so. 😉
Charm school? I suspect we might be able to bluff our way through, but what fun would that be? I suspect the reality would be that we wouldn’t last a day! They would be throwing things at us as we bade our adieus. How most uncharming of them.
